Weapon Progression – Modern Ops 2 Guide
Overview summary: Learn all the information relating to the all-new Camo Grind available in Modern Ops 2, and Wargrounds 2.0 (coming November 22). The unified Weapon Progression system connects both titles, allowing Operators to unlock mastery across modes and carry their identity through every fight.
Overview
The Weapon Progression System in Modern Ops 2 transforms how players develop and personalize their arsenal. Every shot, assist, and kill contributes toward a weapon’s level — unlocking attachments, receivers, and visual mastery. For the first time, progress syncs across both Modern Ops 2 and Wargrounds 2.0 through the ShooterofIO HQ Network, ensuring every grind matters.
Whether you’re hunting Mastery Camos, testing Aftermarket conversions, or grinding Weapon XP during events, the progression system rewards dedication and experimentation equally.
Weapon XP & Levels
Each weapon in Modern Ops 2 gains XP through eliminations, assists, objective captures, and challenge completions. Leveling weapons unlocks attachments, optics, barrels, and conversions unique to that platform family.
- Base Levels (1–20): Unlock fundamental attachments such as barrels, muzzles, and optics.
- Advanced Levels (21–35): Access hybrid receivers, new ammo types, and handling upgrades.
- Elite Levels (36+): Unlock platform-exclusive conversions, rare camos, and cosmetic bonuses.
Completing challenges on one weapon often unlocks attachment compatibility for others in the same platform family, streamlining progression across multiple builds.
Camo Challenges Explained
Camo Challenges return with a complete overhaul. Every weapon features a unique set of base challenges, scaling with weapon level and type. Completing all camo tiers rewards the new Unified Mastery recognition, visible across every ShooterofIO title.
- Base Camos: Simple challenges like eliminations or headshots. Completing these unlocks the first four camos for that weapon.
- Completionist Camos: Require advanced tasks such as longshots, double kills, or killstreak-based eliminations.
- Prestige Camos: Special event or season-exclusive challenges that extend beyond launch tiers.
Completing the full camo track for one weapon family unlocks access to cross-platform grinds in Wargrounds 2.0, syncing your achievements across both experiences.
Mastery Categories
The Camo Grind consists of five main mastery categories. These tiers define long-term progression goals for dedicated players:
- Bronze Mastery: Complete all base camo challenges for one weapon.
- Silver Mastery: Unlock and complete the weapon’s advanced challenges.
- Gold Mastery: Achieved after mastering every attachment tier and completing weapon-specific tasks.
- Platinum Mastery: Complete Gold across an entire platform family.
- Obsidian Mastery: The ultimate reward for finishing Platinum across all categories — featuring reactive textures.
Each tier grants visual upgrades, inspection animations, and Armory badges visible to other players in multiplayer lobbies.
Aftermarket Unlocks
Weapon Progression directly influences Aftermarket unlocks. Once a weapon hits Gold or higher, a unique Aftermarket Conversion Kit becomes available, altering its fire type, caliber, or handling profile entirely. These conversions open new playstyles — turning ARs into burst rifles or SMGs into precision carbines.
Mastery also increases blueprint customization depth, unlocking unique tracer effects, weapon audio variants, and animated skins exclusive to high-tier Operators.
Camo Grind Across Games
On November 22, 2025, Wargrounds 2.0 will adopt the same unified Camo Grind system. Operators who complete Gold, Platinum, or Obsidian camos in Modern Ops 2 will see those unlocks mirrored automatically in Wargrounds 2.0 through the HQ sync network.
Both titles contribute to a shared Mastery progress bar — meaning your weapon history, XP, and camo data move seamlessly between games. Complete one grind, and your achievement becomes global.
Master every weapon. Master every battlefield. The Camo Grind isn’t just about color — it’s about commitment, precision, and proof of dominance across the ShooterofIO Universe.
